Integrating Business and Leisure (Bleisure) Travel to Enhance Jakarta’s MICE Competitiveness

The global tourism industry is shifting toward more integrated business and leisure travel, where these activities are no longer viewed as entirely separate. This shift is reflected in the rise of bleisure, a concept that combines “business” and “leisure” by integrating recreational activities into trips that remain primarily business-oriented. In this context, bleisure differs from a workation (working vacation), which generally refers to working remotely from a tourist destination, as bleisure specifically involves travel with a core business purpose that is complemented by leisure activities before or after the work agenda. As highlighted in a 2025 report from Incentives, Business Travel & Meetings World (IBTM), this approach enables individuals or groups to extend their trips and experience the destination beyond their professional obligations. The growing adoption of this pattern indicates that bleisure is gaining momentum alongside increasing workplace flexibility and a stronger emphasis on work-life balance (Park et al., 2024).
