Jakarta Investment Festival (Summit) - Thematic #2 Discussion - Investing in Jakarta's Urban Redevelopment

Jakarta Investment Festival 2024 held a thematic discussion titled "Investing in Jakarta's Urban Redevelopment" on Friday, September 6th, 2024. The event explored the complexities and opportunities surrounding Jakarta's transformation into a global city following the relocation of Indonesia's capital. It emphasized the importance of strategic investments and innovative approaches to address the city's unique challenges and leverage its potential for growth.

The event brought together experts like Mr. Louis Triveno, Senior Urban Development Specialist of World Bank, who highlighted the need for urban transformation through innovative infrastructure investment and private sector collaboration. He emphasized addressing challenges like traffic and housing while leveraging existing strengths. Meanwhile, Mr. Mike Broomell, Managing Director of Colliers Indonesia, discussed repurposing government buildings into residential areas and advocated for policy changes to boost property development and attract foreign investment. 
Mrs. Tona Hutauruk from the Jakarta Investment Centre highlighted the government's proactive efforts to attract investors through the Jakarta Investment Catalyst Initiatives and the "Jakarta Digital Twin" platform. Moreover, Mr. Sulistyo, Head of Professional Services at Esri Indonesia, emphasized the role of geospatial technology in data-driven urban planning,  while Mr. Benni Aguscanda, Head of Department for Investment & Integrated One Stop Services Jakarta Provincial Government, added that  "In developing this investment potential, we should not only look at it from the perspective of individual parcel, but also consider the potential by district or area."
In closing, Mr. Andy Simarmata, President of Indonesian Association of Urban & Regional Planner (IAP), emphasized Jakarta's potential to become a more inclusive and sustainable economic and cultural hub on the global stage. Despite the challenges posed by the capital's relocation, the city's robust infrastructure, thriving business sector, and growing investment appeal position it for a promising future. The insights shared during the discussion will highly contribute to shaping Jakarta's urban redevelopment journey.
