Investing in a Future-Proof Jakarta Through Resilient Urban Development

Monday, 10 August 2026

Cities today face growing economic uncertainty, climate risks, technological disruption, and rapid urbanisation, increasing the importance of building cities that are resilient and adaptable to future challenges. A future-proof city is not defined solely by the scale of its development, but by the strength, adaptability, and sustainability of the systems supporting its economy. For Jakarta, resilient infrastructure and strategic urban development are central to creating an investment environment capable of generating durable value. PricewaterhouseCoopers (2026) describes infrastructure as a platform for economic prosperity and highlights the importance of interconnected and resilient systems that support productivity, connectivity, and long-term growth amid emerging pressures.

This is why investment in resilience is increasingly recognised as a practical way to support economic growth and reduce future losses. The World Economic Forum reports that nearly three in four business leaders view resilience investment as a driver of business growth (World Economic Forum, 2026). This shift in perspective is increasingly reflected in investment decision-making, with greater emphasis being placed on long-term risks and opportunities. As a result, resilient cities are better positioned to protect asset value, maintain business continuity, and create a more stable environment for sustainable growth (World Economic Forum, 2025).

Infrastructure also creates value by improving the movement of people, goods, and services. Transport networks, utilities, logistics facilities, and digital systems enable businesses to operate efficiently and connect with wider markets. Meeting global infrastructure demand is estimated to require USD 106 trillion in investment by 2040, with Asia representing approximately 65% of total expenditure (World Economic Forum, 2026b). With much of this demand concentrated in Asia, Jakarta is well positioned to capitalise on this regional opportunity through its ongoing urban development, creating opportunities to enhance productivity, generate employment, and deliver better urban services.

To capitalise on these opportunities, Jakarta continues to prioritise investment across strategic sectors that contribute to the city's long-term urban and economic development. These include residential, hospitality, sports and recreation, industry and logistics, commercial development, mixed-use transit-oriented development (TOD), utilities, transportation, and waterfront township projects. By promoting a diverse portfolio of investment opportunities, Jakarta aims to respond to evolving infrastructure and urban development needs while strengthening its position as a future-ready investment destination. These sectors are expected to support sustainable economic growth, enhance urban connectivity and liveability, and create lasting value for businesses, investors, and communities.

This year, Jakarta Investment Festival (JIF) 2026 serves as a platform to connect investors, businesses, and development partners with the opportunities driving Jakarta's urban development. By bringing together key stakeholders from across sectors, JIF 2026 highlights how investment can contribute to building a more connected, resilient, and sustainable city while creating long-term value for businesses, communities, and the wider economy. Visit the Future Proof City Pavilion to explore Jakarta's strategic investment opportunities and discover how the city is advancing its urban transformation through resilient and sustainable development.
