As Jakarta pursues its vision of becoming a global city, the need for reliable and sustainable sanitation systems is increasingly important. Paljaya, established in 1991 as a regionally owned enterprise under the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, is responsible for the distribution, collection, maintenance, and treatment of wastewater through centralized, communal, and on-site systems. The company also operates septic tank sludge treatment, recycled water facilities, and plumbing services, ensuring a complete approach to urban sanitation.
This commitment is reflected in two strategic investment opportunities presented by Paljaya at the Jakarta Investment Festival Exhibition 2025. The projects, IPALD Simatupang Phase II and Jakarta Sewerage System Zone 8, will not only broaden service coverage but also strengthen Jakarta’s capacity to meet rising urban demands with sustainable, long-term solutions.
The first project, IPALD Simatupang Phase II, focuses on expanding the sewer pipeline network and upgrading the Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in TB Simatupang. Designed to serve about 100,000 people, the system will use advanced Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology to ensure high-quality treatment standards. The project includes the construction of 5,067 meters of new pipeline and a Mechanical & Electrical capacity upgrade of 2,000 m³/day, expanding the WWTP’s total capacity to 6,000 m³/day. It will also serve 57 commercial buildings such as hospitals, offices, apartments, and schools.
To further strengthen sanitation services, the second project, Jakarta Sewerage System Zone 8, is part of the broader Jakarta Sewerage System program. It is designed to collect and treat around 80% of domestic wastewater generated within the zone, while the remaining 20% will be managed through upgraded on-site septic tanks. The development includes a 16,000 m³/day Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), a 62.4 km trunk sewer, and an extensive 887 km reticulation network, supported by a total pipeline length of 949,400 meters.
