Connecting AsiaBerlin's startup ecosystem with Jakarta




JAKARTA (31/10) - Jakarta Investment Centre (JIC) received a visit from CEOs of AsiaBerlin, a collective platform under Berlin Senate Department that brings together communities within the startup ecosystems across Asia and Berlin, on October 28th 2022. This visit bridged startup founders with representatives from Regional Owned Enterprises (ROEs) and Government Agencies to build networks and share experiences towards various kinds of business among which are education, health and mobility technology in Jakarta. 

According to the Cento Ventures report, Indonesia is ranked as the most rapidly growing startup ecosystem in Southeast Asia with investment reaching USD 5.96 billion in 2021. As the center of business in the country, Jakarta is welcoming and supporting startup expansion. 

The Head of JIC, Tona Hutauruk, stated that Jakarta has a huge business development potential. Economic growth rate and investment realization growth increased 5.59% and 14.1% consecutively in Q2-2022. In terms of the digital sector, 93.24% of Jakarta citizens have access to the internet and own mobile phones. Moreover, Jakarta ranked 32nd as a city with a significant start-up ecosystem growth.

“One of our development priorities is to be a future global economic hub as well as a sustainable investment pioneer. Furthermore, Jakarta has a startup ecosystem growth acceleration program through Jakarta Future City Hub in collaboration with the Berlin City Government,” she said. 

Community Manager of AsiaBerlin, Shira Putrinda, explained that the team visit to Jakarta is part of the AsiaBerlin Summit 2022 where its delegates visits several countries including Singapore and Indonesia for company development and exploration through investment opportunities in the visited countries. 

Beside presentations from both parties, the meeting provided a networking session where delegates from AsiaBelin and Jakarta Provincial City Government to exchange more detailed information. The networking session was divided into five categories which are transportation, IT and artificial intelligence, education, health and investment. 

Through this visit, it is expected that business entities in Jakarta will be able to connect with the global environment and vice versa. JIC is ready to facilitate direct assistance for startups in expanding their market in Jakarta!
