Introductory Meeting with Embassy of Malaysia

Thursday, 07 March 2024

On February 27, 2024, Jakarta Investment Centre (JIC) led by Mrs. Tona Hutauruk met with a distinguished delegation from the Malaysia Embassy in Jakarta, represented by Mr. Mohd. Najeeb Abdullah as Minister Counsellor (Economy), Mr. Suresh Kumar R. Palasanthiran as Trade Commissioner of MATRADE, and Mr. Fakhrul Arifin Mohammad Zulkifly as First Secretary. The session focused on fostering business and investment ties, showcasing Jakarta’s 2024 priority projects, and exploring medical tourism opportunities at the Jakarta Investment Festival (JIF) 2024.

For information, Malaysia is one of the medical treatment destinations in Asia, particularly for Indonesian patients. According to the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council, the number of medical tourists in Malaysia reached 1,220,000 in 2019. The number of visits once decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, but it bounced back gradually post-pandemic in 2022, reaching up to 850,000 visitors.

The meeting was a significant step towards identifying mutual interests and opportunities for collaboration, particularly in sectors poised for growth such as healthcare, eco-tourism, and waste management. By exploring both B2B and G2G collaboration avenues, the engagement sets the groundwork for a future of shared innovation and prosperity. This initiative not only strengthens bilateral relations but also showcases Jakarta's readiness to be a hub for sustainable and inclusive investment.
