The UK to support network expansion of MRT Jakarta

JAKARTA (16/6) - The United Kingdom (UK) expressed its support and commitment in supporting the network expansion of MRT Jakarta. This support was restated by The UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to the ASEAN EC, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines Richard Graham MP in his visit to PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) at Wisma Nusantara, Central Jakarta. 

Also present were the Country Director Department for International Trade, Oliver Richards; Country Manager Indonesia UK Export Finance, Richard Michael; and Senior Trade Advisor for Infrastructure Sector, Efrizal Saputra. The team was warmly received by President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William Sabandar, Construction Director of PT MRT Jakarta Silvia Halim; and Business Development Director of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Farchad Mahfud. 

“I am happy to confirm the Expression of Interest or delivery of interest from The UK Export Finance regarding export lending worth £1.25 for the expansion of MRT Jakarta corridor and urban regeneration project in Jakarta,” said Richard Graham in the midst of the friendly meeting on Monday, 13 June 2022. 

William Sabandar warmly welcomed the UK’s team visit. “We are very grateful for the visit from the UK Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy this afternoon. This is a follow-up meeting after we previously met in London, UK in May 2022 to discuss UK support for the corridor expansion of MRT Jakarta,” explained William. 

“In that visit, we also signed an MoU between PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) and Crossrail International regarding capacity building including organizational structure and funding scheme alternative for MRT Jakarta route expansion, next phase planning and delivery strategy, as well as economic, social, and sustainable green corridor development strategy along MRT Jakarta route,” he added. 

Moreover, William said that both parties also discuss possibilities of the most suitable partnership on the road to the upcoming G20 Summit.

As for the next step, William stated that PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) will immediately coordinate this letter of interest from The UK to The National Government and The Jakarta Capital City Government as the regulator of MRT Jakarta’s expansion project.
