JAKARTA (30/6) - PT Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is currently working on MRT Phase 2 Bundaran HI-Kota route.

The Government of Japan is reported to be committing to support the completion of all MRT Phase 2 construction. This was stated by The Government of Japan in Indonesia’s team working visit some time ago.

“So this is a commitment for Phase 2 that will be funded by a loan from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA),” the President Director of PT MRT Jakarta William P. Sabandar explained  in a media briefing, Thursday (30/6).

The Phase 2 of MRT construction is planned to be continued from Kota to Ancol Barat. “Or known as MRT Phase 2A Bundaran HI-Kota and MRT Phase 2B Kota-Ancol Barat,” William added.

The Kota-Ancol Barat project is currently in a feasibility study process and will soon enter the design planning.

In addition, The Government of Japan is reportedly also interested in financing the construction of the MRT Phase 3 Balaraja-Cikarang with a length of 84.102 kilometers.

William stated that the MRT Phase 3 project will be called the MRT East-West Line in the future. The name was chosen considering that the project’s route is very long and is divided into several phases within it.

"Right now we are still calling it Phase 3 but maybe in the future we will call it the East-West Line, so there will be the North-South Line and the East-West Line," William explained.

In detail, the MRT East-West Line is divided into Phase 1 covering the Jakarta area and Phase 2 covering Banten and West Java. The MRT East-West Line Phase 1 project will be further divided into Stage 1 along 24,527 kilometers and Stage 2 along 9,237 kilometers.

Based on this division, the Government of Japan stated its intention to provide a funding loan for the East-West Line Phase 1 Stage 1 Tomang-Medan Satria route.

"So we haven't received the funding yet, while the first one was committed by the government of Japan during our visit (to the country) a while ago. We are currently waiting for the formal commitment because it was still a verbal commitment," William concluded.

William hopes that this collaboration can accelerate the kick-off of the MRT Jakarta East-West line construction.
